Starting your Master’s Dissertation

studysmallAt this time of year, thousands of students are embarking on a terrifying journey…. as they start thinking about their Master’s dissertation!

If you’re studying for a Master’s in the UK, you may well have to write a dissertation as part of your course, and if so, you are probably starting to think about it around now. The dissertation itself might not have to be handed in until August, but it’s a major piece of work that will take you some months to complete.

So what should you be thinking about now? Well, you should make sure you’ve got an idea of the expected timetable from your university.  Where can you find the university’s expectations and requirements for the dissertation? Who is the best person in your university department to talk to about the dissertation?

Start by having a look at  your university’s online presence. A lot of universities produce guides to dissertation writing.

Have a look at some examples here – but make sure you follow the guidelines your own department has set!
